Exterior changes include a more pronounced arrow-shape of the radiator grille, new front bumper, and exhaust tailpipes integrated into the rear bumper. The headlights use bi-xenon technology and LED indicators on the lower edge of the headlamp as standard. The 2010 S550 also gets new advanced safety features including Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and the Pre-Safe brake system which is linked to the proximity radar and intervenes automatically before an impending rear-end collision. Attention Assist a driver drowsiness monitor and Active Body Control with automatic crosswind stabilization are also standard on the 2010 S550 4-matic. Automobile Magazine named the S550 as one of its All-Stars over rivals from Lexus and BMW, and Car and Driver selected the S550 as the winner in a five-way comparison test of flagship luxury sedans. In another test Motor Trend Magazine selected the S550 as the winner in a July 2009 shootout in a three way comparison test, with the other two competitors being the BMW 750LI, and Audi A8L 4.2 Quattro.
